Comprehensive eye examination

The detailed eye examination includes:

• Examination by an ophthalmologist
• Diagnostic tests:
  • OCT - optical coherence tomography - Optical coherence tomography- This examination provides high-resolution slices of the retina. The examination lasts no more than 10 minutes. It is used to diagnose the smallest changes in the fundus of the eye, allowing the most correct and timely treatment of many retinal diseases.
  • Visual acuity- performed using a standardized chart. The most commonly used chart is the Snellen chart- it consists of a series of letters and numbers that are larger at the top and gradually get smaller towards the bottom.
  • Topography- a non-invasive diagnostic test that allows to examine the shape and characteristics of the cornea by generating a topographic map. The examination is mandatory in keratoconus, high astigmatism, fitting of individual contact lenses and before and after laser vision correction.
  • Mirror microscope- an optical reflecting microscope in which a slit of light is focused onto the surface of the corneal endothelium and, like a mirror, the reflected light rays are focused onto the film plane for viewing on a real-time monitor.
