The first non-invasive prenatal test in Bulgaria and Europe - Prenatest responds even more to the needs of its customers, expanding its range with Full Chromosome Analysis.
Expectant mothers will now have the opportunity to obtain even more detailed and timely information about the health of the fetus, testing it for a much wider range of genetic abnormalities.
Until now, Prenatest has tested for the most common chromosomal abnormalities - Down syndrome, Edwards syndrome, Patau syndrome and sex chromosome defects. The new, more expanded panel includes a full chromosome analysis. It is an examination of the number and structure of all chromosomes (46 in number, grouped into 23 pairs). It can confirm or exclude the presence of severe genetic abnormalities (trisomies and monosomies).
Most of these conditions are not compatible with life. In others, the clinical picture varies, depending on the degree of impairment, and quality of life may be severely impaired.
One of the abnormalities for which the analysis provides a result is Trisomy 16, which occurs in 1 in 100 pregnancies. It is also a common cause of miscarriages during pregnancy.
Not all of these abnormalities can be detected in standard examinations during pregnancy follow-up. In some cases, an invasive procedure or a non-invasive prenatal test, which isolates and tests fetal DNA material, is necessary to make a diagnosis.
The assay retains its high accuracy (up to 99%) and can be performed at the earliest after the 9th gestational week of pregnancy. It is applicable in singleton and biparturient pregnancies as well as after assisted reproduction methods.
The team of the German laboratory Lifecodex does not stop working to develop and improve the quality of the service. Globally, over 175,000 samples have been processed and the test has coverage in over 50 countries worldwide. In Bulgaria, nearly 4,000 families have chosen to spend a more relaxed pregnancy trusting Prenatest.
