Stomach sleeve or metabolic surgery?
Waist-gastroplasty, known as „gastric sleeve“, is an operation in which part of the stomach is removed in order to limit the amount of food ingested and to influence the mechanisms that regulate appetite and metabolism.
Metabolic surgery encompasses surgical approaches that, in addition to reducing weight, can improve blood sugar control in certain patients with type 2 diabetes.
The choice of procedure depends on the body mass index (BMI), accompanying diseases, previous treatment, and individual medical parameters. The surgery is not suitable for every patient and does not guarantee remission of diabetes.
Who are the meetings suitable for?
The meetings are primarily intended for patients who:
- have established obesity and are considering surgical treatment;
- have obesity accompanied by type 2 diabetes or other metabolic diseases;
- they wish to discuss which surgical approach would be suitable for them;
- they have already received a recommendation for surgery and are seeking additional opinions;
- they have a known general surgical disease for which surgical intervention has been proposed.
For the preliminary examination of the cases, information about the diagnosis, the treatment performed, the accompanying diseases, and the available medical tests must be provided.
