Recently, Prof. Dr. Ismet Aslan helped a 35-year-old patient from Bulgaria with the insidious disease of tongue cancer. The young man noticed a change in his tongue, but doctors assured him it was nothing serious. After a while, however, he became doubtful and went to Istanbul, where it turned out to be a cancerous growth. With tongue cancer, the only option is surgery. Because of the disease, about 80% had to be removed from the patient's tongue, and it was subsequently reconstructed using muscle tissue taken from his arm. This way the man will be able to eat and speak as before.
