Genetic testing for glaucoma susceptibility
Glaucoma is a disease characterized by progressive damage to the optic nerve and irreversible defects in the visual field, often associated with increased intraocular pressure. It is a leading cause of blindness worldwide. The most common forms of glaucoma are age-related. The disease usually begins in middle age and develops slowly but inexorably.
FOR WHOM THE GLAUCOMA PROTECT TEST IS SUITABLE:
- For patients with a familial burden;
- For patients with already proven glaucoma;
- For patients with increased intraocular pressure.
BENEFITS OF GLAUCOMA PROTECT TESTING:
- Patients carrying genetic mutations associated with the development of glaucoma are identified in order to initiate strict follow-up and possible treatment at a much earlier stage;
- Identify family members at risk to start earlier prevention.
- Provides guidance for optimal therapeutic decisions.
