- What is phimosis, and what are the different types?
When the foreskin does not fully retract behind the glans before the age of four, we can speak of phimosis or agglutination of the glans. In cases where the urethral opening is not visible on the glans, we define the phimosis as marked. In less complicated cases, it is only a matter of skin stretching.
- What symptoms does phimosis cause?
Severe phimosis can cause urinary retention and enlargement of the urinary tract. Also, since the foreskin cannot be retracted, this creates hygiene problems. Fatty epithelium accumulates, becoming a source of microbes that cause bladder and urinary tract infections.

- How is phimosis diagnosed?
During an examination, a medical professional can determine whether the patient has phimosis or just adhesions of the foreskin.
- Are all treatments for phimosis surgical?
If there is a slight tightening or adhesion of the foreskin, it may be possible to treat it with ointments alone. For more severe forms, surgical circumcision should be performed to remove the narrowing.
