Univ. Prof. Dr. Robert Schmidhammer specializes in peripheral nerve surgery, reconstructive surgery and hand surgery:

  • He studied medicine at the University of Vienna.
  • In 1987, he received his PhD in Human Genetics and in the following years underwent training in the following areas: general practice, trauma, anaesthesiology, intensive care, counterpoint surgery, sports medicine, hand surgery and microsurgery.
  • He is a member of the Austrian Society of Traumatology, the Austrian Society of Hand Surgery, the German Society of Hand Surgery and the American Society of Peripheral Nerve Injury.
  • From 2002 to the present day he has been President of the German Interdisciplinary Group for Peripheral Nerve Research at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Experimental and Clinical Traumatology in Vienna.

Memberships and publications

Prof. Dr. Robert Schmidhammer's research focuses on nerve regeneration and the impact of movement on peripheral nerve regeneration. He has over 130 publications, original articles and reviews in the areas of experimental research, epidemiology, clinical research and translational research that have been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals.
