How is the diagnostic process initiated?
Before proceeding to a fusion biopsy, the first step is usually to examine the level of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in the blood. When the results are above the reference values, a biopsy is performed. However, standard biopsies sometimes fail to detect aggressive forms in time – that's why we use fusion biopsy.
What makes fusion biopsy so different?
Its essence lies in the integration of two types of imaging diagnostics: magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and real-time ultrasound. With the help of special software, the images are „merged,“ allowing the doctor to guide the needle with exceptional precision to suspicious areas. This technology allows us to take samples with millimeter accuracy.
What are its advantages?
Fusion biopsy has significantly higher diagnostic value compared to conventional methods—its accuracy is over 60% greater. This not only increases the chances of early detection of aggressive tumors but also reduces the risk of false-negative results. Early diagnosis of prostate cancer is key to successful treatment.
How does the procedure work?
The procedure is performed under short sedation, making it almost painless for the patient. Thanks to our organization, self-funded and private patients gain access to the procedure without long waiting periods. Diagnosis and subsequent planning can begin immediately.
What are the future prospects?
Fusion biopsy will soon become a standard method for prostate cancer diagnosis. In our practice, we have been using this approach since 2017 and are already seeing definitive results – both in terms of accuracy and quality of life for patients. This is a technology that sets a new standard.
